Our Big Adventure Final Trip Update

Well, our big road trip adventure is officially over.  After driving nearly forty thousand kilometres to various places around North America, we have decided to wrap it up.  We had a lovely time.  We saw many amazing places and met beautiful people.  We have created some awesome memories that we will surely treasure.

Success Does Not Have To Lead To Excess

Success doesn’t have to lead excess.  Just because you may find yourself becoming more financially successful throughout your life, it doesn’t mean that you should dramatically change your lifestyle.  People who earn more generally spend more, and to a certain extent, that’s okay, but if you find yourself constantly trying to keep up with your peers, you may discover some negative surprises.

Just because your fellow colleague may eat out for lunch every day, drive a fancy car, and wear expensive clothing, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they can afford to.  You don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. They could be in debt up to their eyebrows for all you know.  What matters most is that you know what you can truly afford and spending accordingly.

My husband and I travel every year, usually taking a road trip for at least a couple of weeks at a time.  Right now we are on a more extensive road trip, taking a significant amount of time driving around the United States and Canada.  Until just recently, we managed to avoid staying in any sort of hotel or motel for almost 6 years.

Do you find yourself living for the weekend?  Are you just going through the motions week by week and counting down the days and hours until the weekend?  If so, you may need to consider looking at other employment options.

So many Canadians find themselves stuck in a rut where they simply look forward to Friday.  Have you ever caught yourself on a Monday morning saying to a colleague: “Is it Friday yet?”  If you have, then it might be the right time to do some serious thinking about what you are doing with your life.  If you do not feel fulfilled with your current job situation, perhaps you need to do something new.

Our Big Adventure – Update 2

It has been almost 70 days since we packed up and left for our big road trip.  We have traveled more than 17000 kilometers and we have seen many amazing things including glaciers,canyons, mountains, the Pacific Ocean, a variety of marine and land wildlife,  and so much more.  We are appreciating every day of this journey, and although it does have its challenges, we have been really blessed by this experience so far.

Do you know if your company has a pension plan?  All too often employees are very unaware of all the employee benefits their company has to offer.  Even if they have a pension plan they are often unaware of most of the details around it.If your company does have a pension plan, consider yourself blessed.  Not nearly as many companies offer them as in the past.  However, it is important that you understand what exactly you will be entitled to when you retire or leave your current job.  Also, if you want to ensure adequate funds during retirement, you are going to want to make sure you are contributing towards your pension plan if applicable.
