To be a consultant you need to know your product (even though it is imported) and how it meets your customers’ needs. This issue is of utmost importance as the landscape of customers’ needs is changeable. 
I have written recently and article on ‘Consultative Selling and Customers’ Needs Identification”. The article offers new approaches to identifying customers’ needs.
