Smart Couples Finish Rich: 9 Steps To Creating A Rich Future For You And Your Partner by David Bach

Smart Couples Finish Rich is a really useful book that you and your spouse can use if you want to improve your financial situation as a team.  The main point is that you don’t have to have a lot of money or education to be successful.  All it takes is two people who are willing to work together at tackling their financial sitution.

The book emphasizes the importance of figuring out what your top 5 values are. By doing so you will be able to create specific goals in line with your values.  Then you will be able to ensure that you are living the life you really want to live and your finances will be easier to manage as you will have more direction and motivation as a couple.

All too often folks focus on what money can buy and  what it will allow them to do, but seldom do they think about what  it can allow them to be.  If you focus on your values first and foremost then you will be more likely to feel fulfilled in life and less likely to experience a mid life crisis.

The book takes you through the process of discovering your values and goals, and walks the reader through a Purpose-Focused Financial Plan step by step.  The author gives advice on where to start including simple things like developing a filing system for your financial records so everything is at your fingertips when you need it.

If you and your spouse are looking for help regarding setting up and continuing with a sound financial plan, this book is a must-read.  In fact, anyone who is in the field of helping others develop financial plans should read this book.  It brings you back to the basics of figuring out what is truly meaningful to the individual before providing them with advice.  Financial planning is so much more than just doing number crunching.

There are practical activities throughout the book that you and your spouse can do together to get you on track and to ensure that you are both on the same page.  The author also debunks some basic money myths that you may believe are true.  Overall, I would highly recommend this book as it has the potential to really make a difference in people’s lives even beyond their finances.
