Used Car Parts Can Save You Big Money

Just recently our older vehicle was giving us trouble.  We tried to start it one morning and the battery was completely dead.  After fiddling around for a while, my husband discovered that even when the car was turned off, something was draining the battery. He eventually was able to pinpoint the problem.  The daytime running lights were using battery power due to a malfunctioning part.

My husband called a car repair shop and was told that the price of the new part would cost between $200 and $300.  He decided to contact a local junkyard to see if they had this part available.  Sure enough, they had the same type of vehicle sitting in the junkyard.  My husband was able to remove the part from the car and he only had to pay $10 for it!  Now that was definitely worth his time.

Before buying new car parts when your car is in need of repair, it never hurts to check with your local auto junkyard to see if they have the part available.  By buying used parts you can save a lot of your hard-earned money.  The trick is to know what you are looking for.

Although it took my husband a fair amount of time to figure out the problem, and he ended up having to Google search it and also borrow some car repair books from the library, it was definitely worth his time as it saved us at least $200.  So, if you have some inkling as to how to repair cars or you have the interest in learning, the next time your car is acting up, consider doing some of your own research, and if applicable, try to find a used part before taking your car to the shop.
