5 Steps to creating the best yearbook in 2022

The yearbook acts as a way to reminisce about your student life, especially the exciting moments while studying and the friends you made. Thanks to the school yearbook, you’ll be able to keep alive your favorite experiences and take a walk down memory lane later on in life after memories have faded and you have gone on to build a family of your own. These are events and moments you’ll, without a doubt, cherish well into your adulthood.

But how do you go about creating the best yearbook in 2022? Below is a guide on the steps you should follow.

  • Assemble A Team

The first step when designing a yearbook is to assemble an organized, creative, efficient, and collaborative team of students. This is because each individual should bring their own unique set of skills. But as you do this, ensure that this project does stick to your deadlines and set budget. The different persons that need to be part of your team include;

  • Photographers
  • Writers
  • Chief editor

It’s best to start by finding a suitable chief editor before filling these other positions when creating your yearbook.

  • Establish Your Budget

Creating a yearbook involves certain costs, so you need to determine your expenses in advance. Consequently, you should create a budget and a tracking system such as printing costs and photography fees. You should also factor in miscellaneous expenses because other trivial items may affect the overall cost of your yearbook.

With the budget in place, go ahead and create a process of approving and recording your costs. This way, you’ll be certain not to exceed your budget and ensure every student and parent can afford a copy of the yearbook without running the school into debt.

  • Set Deadlines and Reminders

Having deadlines is a must when creating a yearbook because it entails events throughout the year. This is why you need to set milestones when creating your yearbook. A good place to start is the date when students should be given the yearbooks. It’s also advisable to consider the time you’ll spend when printing.

Everyone within your team should know the time by when they should deliver what they’re expecting. And to ensure the set deadlines are met, have in place reminders that can help them be on track to meeting the deadlines.

  • Make A Content Outline And Add Content

You need to iron out the details that need to be included in the yearbook. When doing this, begin by including basics, including staff and class photos. Once you’re done, go ahead to the more challenging content, including field trips, school competitions, musical performances, clubs, and field trips. Consequently, come up with page concepts for the yearbook layout, including selfies page, school life, and volunteering.

  • Edit The Yearbook

Once you’re done with adding the relevant content to your yearbook, make sure it’s also edited, and this is the role of the chief editor. Editing must be done page by page to inspect details such as the picture format, page layout designs, and scanning texts for possible typos. You should only print the yearbook after editing it and ensuring everything is correct and well-laid out.
