Earlier this year, we decided to upgrade the insulation in our attic to R60. Prior to doing so, we lost a lot of heat from our attic each winter as evidenced by multiple very large icicles around our entire home. In summer, we boiled from the heat and had to use a window air conditioner just to survive.
Once our attic insulation was upgraded, however, we were very glad we got it done. For the rest of the winter, we observed no icicles at all, and our home was warmer. This summer, so far we haven’t needed to use our air conditioner, as the temperature inside has been much more comfortable.
So, even though updating your attic insulation is far from exciting, and it is expensive, it was well worth it for us.
