How Much Does It Cost To Attend University?

If you are considering furthering your education or your child plans on attending university, it’s a good idea to check out the University Cost Calculator to find out how much you can expect to pay for tuition, etc.

The calculator provides information for many universities across Canada and gives specific information for various faculties.  It will give you an estimate of the cost for the entire program.  Some faculties may not be listed, as Statistics Canada could not get accurate cost information for all faculties.

The information is based on data from 2006 so it may be somewhat out of date, however, it will still give you a basic ballpark figure of how much you will need to save/borrow.  The calculator assumes that costs will increase annually by 4%.

It is good to be aware of the costs associated with attending university.  If you know how much you need to save, you can start saving in advance so that you don’t have to borrow as much.  For parents with young children who want to save for their children’s future education, a great way to get started is to set up automatic contributions into a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) and take advantage of government grants.

Use this tool to compare the cost of tuition across Canada for the field you are interested in pursuing.  By the click of a mouse you can find the most affordable places to study and then send in your applications accordingly.
