Read Online Reviews Before Staying At Cheap Motels

There are times when you luck out and find a great price for a hotel or motel online and it turns out to be nice.  We have had that experience a few times while traveling.  For instance, for about $40 we ended up staying in an Extend A Stay hotel that had a beautiful kitchen, etc.  On the other hand, we have also had some really bad experiences with paying so little for a hotel or motel.

The worst for us was when I ignored all the online reviews and excitedly selected the cheapest hotel through Priceline.com.  It was under $40 including fees and taxes and the reviews were suggesting that we shouldn’t even consider it, but I l liked the price too much.  I am not a big fan of spending tons of money on something as boring as a place to sleep, so against my better judgement I committed to this place.

Well, to make a long story short, the place was disgusting.  It was supposed to be a non-smoking room but it reeked like cigarette smoke.  The towels had hair all over them and we had to wear sandals to shower.  We should have complained but made the mistake of saying nothing.   Needless to say, I learned my lesson.  It’s okay to select a cheap hotel online, but make sure to read the reviews first.  Someone will always complain, so don’t feel like you can’t stay at a place with any negative reviews, but if everyone complains, you know there is a reason.

Saving money is important, but so is ensuring that you stay in a clean place where you can get a good sleep.  Especially when you are traveling, it is important that you get enough rest and that you don’t get sick.  I learned this lesson the hard way so that you don’t have to!
