Great Money Saving Tools To Save On Your Grocery Bill

While visiting a friend recently, she gave me a great idea for a way that helps her to keep herself organized as well as to save money on her grocery bill every week.  Her trick is to use a MenuTemplate that she prints off each week before buying groceries.  She writes down what she plans to make, looks into her cupboards and fridge to see what she already has, and then fills in the section for what she still needs to buy.

Save Money On Groceries By Shopping At Giant Tiger

Although I buy the majority of my groceries at Superstore, every two weeks when I do my big grocery shop, I always stop at Giant Tiger first.  Because they are a discount retailer, they often have groceries on sale for a lot cheaper than most other grocery stores.  For example, I often buy my yogurt there for less than half the price I would pay anywhere else.  I also find great deals on rye bread, and certain frozen products.  Their eggs are really cheap, too, and their bacon is almost always $2.00 or less for a package.

I like to shop at Giant Tiger because I always find something different.  Although they do have a basic product line, they often also have something new each time I shop that is being sold for a really good price.  One time they were selling Delissio pizzas for $2 each.  Needless to say, I stocked up!

Save Money On Your Grocery Bill – Shop at Superstore

I like to shop at Superstore for the majority of my groceries.  Although shopping at Superstore can at times be inconvenient due to large crowds, if I go on weekday evenings I find it much more relaxing and simple to shop there.  I have saved hundreds of dollars each year by shopping there and I highly recommend it if you are looking for ways to decrease your grocery bill without having to buy less.

Below are a few of the major reasons why I choose to shop at Superstore:

*They have cheaper food prices than most grocery stores.  I have compared grocery prices with Sobey’s, Safeway, and a few smaller grocery store chains and have found that for the most part, Superstore is the cheapest.  Costco’s prices are similar to Superstore’s, but Superstore has the advantage of offering different types of brands rather than just one or two brands for each item.

Ways To Make Food Go Further

Whether you are following a tight food budget or just want to cut down on your meat consumption, below are some simple ways to do both.

save money by making your food go further *Add some rolled oats and an egg to raw ground beef and mix it all together.  Then, cook as normal.  The meat tastes the same and it goes a lot further.  This works great for meatballs and hamburgers.

*Cook with lentils and smaller portions of meat rather than using large meat portions.  Lentils are inexpensive, healthy, and contain lots of protein.

*Roast a chicken and eat it for more than one meal.  The roasted chicken could be for supper.  Then, remove the left over chicken from the bones and use it for sandwiches, quesadillas, salads, or chicken potpie.  (There are a lot of ways to use left over chicken!)  Then, boil the bone to make a delicious soup broth.

*Add rice when cooking meat loaf. It tastes great and you won’t need to use as much meat.  Grated carrots also work well in meatloaf.

*Rather than serving whole steaks, dice them up and stir fry with veggies.  The meat will go a lot further and served with rice or needles, stir fries make for a delicious meal.

*When making chili, add a can of corn and a few cans of different kinds of beans.  It will make a lovely, thick dish without adding a lot of meat.

*Buy a turkey around Christmas or Thanksgiving when they are extremely inexpensive.  Ask to have the turkey cut into halves or quarters and then freeze them.  If you decide to cook the whole turkey, freeze leftovers and use them in salads and for sandwiches, etc.  Boil the carcass to make turkey soup.

12 Ways To Save Money on Groceries

save money while grocery shoppingEveryone needs to eat, and groceries can be expensive. Try the tips below when you go grocery shopping and you will be surprised at how much you will save each month.

1. Shop at a store that has a reputation for being inexpensive. There are a lot of grocery stores to choose from and they all charge different prices, so choose the least expensive one.

2. Before going shopping check out the flyer and see what is on sale. Make your list according to the sales so you will know what to be watching for. Cut out coupons that you plan to use.

3. If you are really organized, plan your meals for the week ahead of time so that you only buy what you will need for your menu. If you are like me, and just can’t fathom planning a whole week’s menu ahead of time, just be sure to buy foods that you are sure you will be able to eat before they go bad.

4. Now that you know what is on sale and you have your list and coupons in hand, it’s time to go shopping. Many stores now reward people for bringing their own bags by giving discounts or reward points, so don’t forget to bring along your reusable bags.
