Save For Your Family Vacation As A Team

If you want to go on a family vacation such as taking a trip to Disneyland, a great way to save enough money is to do it as a family.  Get the kids involved by encouraging them to think of creative ways they can contribute.  Open up a savings account specifically for the trip and then as the funds come in, put them into this account.  Give your family frequent updates on how much has been saved so everyone is aware of how far you’ve come and how far you still have to go in order to achieve your goal. If you want to take your savings to the next level, read this guide about how to plan and save big on Disney vacations.

Make it a team effort to come up with the money.  It will be fun!  Your kids can do odd jobs around the neighborhood to earn extra cash.  Perhaps they are old enough to babysit or can pitch in and help with recycling.  Collecting cans and getting a refund is a simple way to earn some cash.  A lemonade stand is also a fun idea.

Stop Wasting Your Money On Lottery Tickets

Too many Canadians are wasting at least $2 every week by buying lottery tickets. Although it is true that a lucky few do win big, most folks might get a free ticket once in a while, or win a minimal amount of money to keep them hooked.

If everyone who was in the habit of buying lottery tickets regularly decided to save their $2 every week instead, this would mean that they could save $104 per year.  Now over one year that doesn’t’ sound like much, but over 10 years that is a savings of $1040, not to mention interest or growth earned from the amount saved.

Do Not Waste Your Money Drinking Bottled Water

Some people spend a tremendous amount of money every month on bottled water.   While at work they use the vending machine and pay anywhere from one to two dollars for a bottle  If you are one of those folks who enjoy drinking bottled water throughout the day, I highly recommend saving your hard-earned money and investing in a Brita Filter container instead. The Brita filter will help get the chlorine taste out of tap water.  It will taste virtually the same as bottled water and the filters will last a long time.

Bringing a stainless-steel water bottle to work and refilling it with Brita filtered water is the simplest way to save you money every month.  If you are in the habit of buying one water bottle at work everyday for $1.50, you are spending approximately $390 per year!

A Way To Save Money When You Move

A friend of mine will soon be moving to a different city.  As we all know, moving can be a real hassle with all the hustle and bustle of packing, organizing, etc.  In order to save time, my friend purchased boxes rather than driving around to different places and getting them for free.

It is understandable that sometimes it is worth paying for the convenience of saving time.  However, she paid more than $60 for her boxes, when she could have gotten them for free quite easily.

Make A Restaurant Meal At Home

When you want to treat yourself and your family but do not want to spend the money to eat out all the time, a great way to enjoy a meal without spending a lot of money is to make a special restaurant-like meal at home.

One that works great at our home is replicating an all -you -can eat buffet where you get to make your own stir-fry.  We use our trusty Toastmaster griddle and I slice up all sorts of veggies such as onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, etc.  I then slice beef very thinly and sometimes I also slice up chicken breasts.
