You may not think about it a whole lot, but there are some very simple ways to save money when washing your clothes. What follows is a quick list of tips that will save you some hard-earned money.
Use Your Dryer Sparingly
Save the dryer for last minute emergencies rather than using it every time you wash a load. In summer, if you can, hang your clothes outside to dry. In winter, dry your clothes inside. You can purchase something to hold your clothes or just simply lay them over chairs and other furniture, etc. This will save you on electricity costs and reducing the use of your dryer also prolongs the longevity of your clothing.
Wash Clothes Less Frequently
If you’ve worn an item of clothing just once or twice and it’s not dirty, don’t automatically throw it in the laundry basket. Instead, put it back in the closet or dresser drawer and wear it a few more times. This not only prolongs your clothes; it also reduces the amount of laundry you have to do. Teach your whole family to do the same, and it will save you both time and money.
Purchase Laundry Detergent in Bulk
Once you find the laundry detergent that works best for you and your family, consider buying the largest one that is available. This reduces the cost and reduces the chance of you running out when you most desperately need it.
Wash Larger Loads
Try to wait until you have a full load prior to washing your clothes. This reduces the amount of times you have to do laundry and also saves on electricity costs. And, by the way, you don’t have to separate your clothes by colours. I never do and I have never had an issue.
These are just a few simple ways that you can save money when doing your laundry. Try them out and see how they work for you.
