There comes a time in everyone’s life where you’ve got to get smart with your money. Pinching the pennies is hardly the most exciting thing you’ll have to do but sometimes it is pretty necessary. The fortunate side of this is that you don’t need to lock your cash away in a safe and throw away the key. The trick is to make sure that you’re getting as much as you can out of the money that you have. Here are a few simple ways to make sure that you’re getting the most out of your money.

Get thrifty

Are you a bit of a compulsive spender? Don’t worry, everyone likes to treat themselves now and then. The problem comes when you’re spending more money that you can actually afford. Rather than cutting down on your purchases completely and living off the land, why not think about getting a bit smarter with your spending. Rather than always buying new, full price items, rain the reduced racks and second hand stores. You can almost always find something unexpectedly fantastic and at a ridiculously low price! This applies to all your spending too. From clothes to food, there’s always an option that lets to be a little more thrifty.

Why drive when you can walk?

Do you find yourself driving everywhere, even when you could probably walk there just as easily? It’s pretty common to pick a ten minute drive over a thirty minute walk but is it really worth it? It might not seem like it but those fuel costs can pile up over time and those little trips where you decided to drive instead of walking can really add up. By taking that extra time and effort to walk instead of driving, you’ll find your money goes that much further. And if walking takes too long, then why not think about cycling? It’s fast, free and helps you stay in shape too!

Credit cards

Now I know what you’re thinking. Surely if you want to be smart with your money, then you’ll stay away from credit cards, right? It is true that if you’re not responsible with how you use them then, credit cards can be a pretty dangerous temptation to spend money. But there are also a lot of positive things about credit cards. For one thing, paying off your credit card regularly every month does wonders for your credit rating. Plus with all the great incentives that come with them, there are a lot of occasions where a premier banking credit card gives you unparalleled benefits. With air miles and more, there are a whole host of ways that a credit card can make your money go further.

No matter how much of this advice you follow, the only real way to make your money go further is to be responsible with how you spend it. Don’t let your spending get out of control and ensure that you’re always aware of exactly what you’re money is doing.
