What Would You Do With One Million Dollars?

I was watching the T.V. show How Winning The Lottery Changed My Life the other day and it was interesting to see how different people responded to their big win.  Some won a million dollars while others won 49 million.  Either way, the winning  changed many people’s lifestyles dramatically, and not all experienced positive changes.

For me, I am quite certain that the money itself wouldn’t necessarily make me happy, however, the fact that I would be able to help a whole lot of people by using this money would be extremely rewarding.

Overcoming Materialism And Becoming A Good Steward

I wouldn’t consider myself to be someone who is materialistic.  Most material things are not all that appealing to me.  In fact, for the most part I would say that I am a very contented person.  I don’t really enjoy shopping because I seldom want to buy anything.  It just has no attraction for me.  I am happy as long as I have enough food to eat, a place to live, and special people to share life with.

I used to be different.  When I was a lot younger I used to want to buy new clothing all the time.  I loved to buy sweaters, and whenever I got a chance I bought another one.  Foolishly I also used to want to buy the most expensive brand name clothing and shoes.  I think the main reason was because I wanted to fit in with everyone else, and it seemed to me that everyone else wore Nike shoes and Mondetta clothing. I also used to spend every last penny on junk food and renting movies.

Save Money On Groceries By Shopping At Giant Tiger

Although I buy the majority of my groceries at Superstore, every two weeks when I do my big grocery shop, I always stop at Giant Tiger first.  Because they are a discount retailer, they often have groceries on sale for a lot cheaper than most other grocery stores.  For example, I often buy my yogurt there for less than half the price I would pay anywhere else.  I also find great deals on rye bread, and certain frozen products.  Their eggs are really cheap, too, and their bacon is almost always $2.00 or less for a package.

I like to shop at Giant Tiger because I always find something different.  Although they do have a basic product line, they often also have something new each time I shop that is being sold for a really good price.  One time they were selling Delissio pizzas for $2 each.  Needless to say, I stocked up!

Pennysaver 100 Day Challenge Update 1

Ten days down, 90 more days to go for the Pennysaverblog 100-Day Challenge.  So far it has been going well.  I have been managing to get at least 15 minutes of exercise everyday.  One day I cheated a little but I made up for it by going for a long walk the next day.  As I thought, taking the time out of my day to exercise has been my biggest challenge.  I know 15 minutes isn’t much, but for me it will take some time to realize that exercise really should be a priority.

So far I haven’t given into the temptation to buy anything frivolous, although I am finding it tough to keep the grocery bill down. No matter how much I try, I always seem to spend more than I expected when I grocery shop.  I will have to work harder on that.  We haven’t eaten out, though, and I haven’t let myself near any dollar stores lately.

Book Review Of The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur

The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur by Mike Michalowicz

I would have to say that The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur is by far the most entertaining book I have read so far about entrepreneurship.  It has a very matter-of-fact tone and while reading it I feel as if the author is speaking directly to me.  The language used is very conversational and easy to follow, although I must admit there is some colorful language throughout the book.
